ONE PIECE Race and Speak Game

Students work as groups. Get points by racing to speak the answers.

I originally had all these Race and Speak games posted together but it was getting a bit much.

HOW I USE THEM
Put the students into groups after doing the demonstration and have them pick their order. Groups can be done as rows or 4 person lunch groups. Whatever works.
Show the student the question and in their group they think of the answer and then send one student to a teacher with the answer. If it is correct they pick one of the characters on the screen and get points. Points generally range from 1 to 4 and -3.
After each team has gotten points or a time limit is reached you reveal the answer. Practice it as a class and move onto the next question. A new group member should come with an answer.

I generally do these games with a tablet connected to the projector. This way both teachers check answers and help students and the kids can tap the screen and manage the points on the board themselves.

NOTES
You click on the question to see the answer and click on the answer to go to the next screen.

'Present Progressive Version' has pictures as hints for the answer.

Thanks for your hard work. Before i run this with my classes, how do they answer with you? verbally? Knowing my students, they will listen-in on the first person that comes up then just copy.

Hi, I pretty much always do these as verbal activities. In the past when I’ve been concerned about “cheating” I’d either have them whisper the answers to a teacher behind a screen or the teacher taking the answer just out in the corridor. These days I don’t worry about it. They usually do most of their thinking before they leave their desks.

Plus I don’t mind a little cheating. This kind of activity needs a bit of speed. It doesn’t work so well when some groups take too long to respond. I’d rather the kids who are struggling get a bit of help then not be able to participate.

Although answering behind a screen or file is good theater.

Wow! this activity is the boom, thank you for the hardwork. I printed out the questions and they wrote it out instead, that way they could brainstorm as a group.
