2022 Present Continuous
I added a present continuous version. This one starts with a pair activity called 'Three Wins Wins'. Its a rock scissors paper game. The loser must do one of the gestures and the winner asks 'Are you...now?'. Once the winner gets a yes answer they do rock scissors paper again and play again. Continue until one gets three wins and then sit down. There are two rounds.
After the point game if there is time they can draw stick figures in their notebooks and write sentences. Odds are they won't have time.
HOW I USE IT
Put the students into groups after doing the demonstration and have them pick their order. Groups can be done as rows or 4 person lunch groups. Whatever works.
Show the student the question and in their group they think of the answer and then send one student to a teacher with the answer. If it is correct they pick one of the characters on the screen and get points. Points generally range from 1 to 4 and -3.
After each team has gotten points or a time limit is reached you reveal the answer. Practice it as a class and move onto the next question. A new group member should come with an answer.
I generally do these games with a tablet connected to the projector. This way both teachers check answers and help students and the kids can tap the screen and manage the points on the board themselves.
NOTES
Click on question to see the answer and then on the answer to go to the next page.
I needed another activity for this afternoon and this fits perfectly! I cut the questions and shuffled the items as I will use it for JHS third graders and I have a list of questons. I love how this style of activity seem to get most of the kids engaged. At the very least laughing at their friends when they lose points! Thanks for sharing and have a great Christmas!
Sometimes all it takes is that -3 points button. Enjoy your holidays.
