This is meant as an introduction to the vocabulary and the first part of the target language in Lesson Five of One World Smile for the 5th year students.
Update
In a follow up lesson we did 'Fun Fruits' and 'Card Collecting'. I'll detail them at the bottom.
PART ONE
Introduce the vocabulary and play the key word game with their partners. The keyword game is also called the 'eraser get game'. The two students have an eraser between them. The teacher leading the activity clicks on one of the vocab words to show a star. This is the keyword. The Teacher then claps his hands and says 'I can...something'. The students must clap their hands and repeat the phrase. Keep repeating this however if the leading teacher says the keyword then rather than clap and repeat the students must try to grab the eraser. Whoever gets it the fastest is the winner. Then click the star to make it vanish and pick another word and play again. Play a couple of times then introduce the next five words, play again and finally do a level up playing with all ten words.
PART TWO
Just a quick silhouette quiz to double check the vocabulary. I have small classes so I won't make groups. I'll just have the students call out their answers. The first slide has the phrase 'She is cool, she can...' the next has the hint picture and the last reveals the answer.
NOTE: He and She hasn't been introduced in the book yet. Best to check with your teacher and if they think it would be too hard change the terms to 'I can' or 'Can you' instead.
PART THREE
This is a mingler game. The students pick one of the learnt words from the slide show or from their vocabulary and make partners. They have short conversations to see who can do the same thing as them. Its not really a game, just a commication activity. After a time limit they go back to their desks. They can pick a new card and mingle again.
PART FOUR
Card Collecting: This is a short activity. Print and cut out enough cards so each student gets gets three cards. Its not important if they have doubles of not. Students make pairs and pick one of their cards and ask 'Can you...?' and answer. Once both have asked and answered they do 'rock, scissors, paper' and the winner takes the losers card. They say 'thanks' and 'bye' and make new pairs and play again. When they lose all their cards they sit down. Once you see a few students sitting down stop the game and count cards to see who the champion is. If it went well you can play another round.
PART FIVE
Fun Fruits: This is a point get game to be played in groups. The groups select their order and then you show the slide with a picture. One member from each group rushes to a teacher and makes the sentence and the goes to the tablet or the teacher controlling the computer and requests or taps on a fruit. They will see how many points they get. The student can then record the points on the board for the group and sit down. Once all groups are done do an answer check and go onto the next slide and next student. Pretty similiar to many of my other activities. You may need to add an additional fruit if there is more than eight groups. My elementary school classes always max at eight groups.
