Attached is a template for two Connect 4 boards I've use for Let's Try 1 Unit 5 (What do you like?)and Let's Try 2 Unit 5 (Do you have pen?).
Rules: In pairs, students take choosing squares by saying the names (alone or in a phrase) along the x and y axes. The goal of the game is to connect 4 of your squares in a row before your partner! I've played it where one student is circles, one is a crosses. For 3rd graders they say "I like ____ and I play _" to choose their squares, and 4th graders say "I have a ___ in my _______" for stationery.
I printed these two slides double-sided and laminated it, so that students can use whiteboard marker and play more than once. You could play this on tablets by sending the document to their tablets, but I haven't tried that yet.
This is a really short and simple review game that would work for all topics, so I plan to make a few more versions to upload. I'm no UonumaRobert so the slide design is pretty rudimentary, but it seems to do the trick! :)
*Note: Before starting, I say the #1 rule in this game is you must say the word or phrase in English before you or your partner draws a circle or crosses. Or maybe try having the students write each other's guesses down?
This looks like a great pattern practice activity. As for making the grid nice and even looking there is an easy way to do it. One I hadn't noticed until just recently. I added a file to my 'How to make a powerpoint game' post that might help.
