Activity

Minefield Treasure Hunt!

Students look at the pictures and make sentences to dig up buried treasure - or a bomb!

Break students into groups and give them the pictures sheet and the coin box/HP sheet. ALT/JTE each get the coin/bomb sheet.

Students in their groups choose one picture and make a sentence about it using the target grammar (e.g. tennis picture could be "I want to play tennis," "We are playing tennis now," "He plays tennis," "I am going to play tennis tommorow," "Do you know the man playing tennis?" "I know how to play tennis," etc.).

If the sentence is okay, check the coin/bomb sheet and tell the students what they get for that square.

If it's coins, students record the number of coins in their coin box. If it's a bomb, students cross out 1 HP. Once students get to zero HP, they lose all their coins and their HP resets back to full.

I recommend demonstrating first with the JTE - especially losing all your HP and dramatically erasing all your coins!
