How Many? - Halloween Monsters

Count how many Halloween-themed monsters and creatures move across the screen.

This is a simple PowerPoint activity intended for younger students (ES 1st - 3rd grade). After reviewing numbers and perhaps learning some spooky Halloween vocab, let the class have fun counting in this Halloween-themed counting challenge.

How to use:
First slide is a simple counting practice from 1-20. After the title slide, you will be in a dark, moonlit woods. The buttons on the bottom right are your controls.

Click the ? button to bring up the question ("How many ghosts?"). You can use this before or after the monsters run across the screen, up to you. Press the ? button again to hide the question bubble.

The > play button will start the animation. Wait until all the creatures have moved across. You can press it again to replay it if your class wants to recount!

Click the checkmark button to bring up the answer. You can click it again to hide the answer if you want to watch the animation again.

Click the right arrow button to go to the next slide. Clicking to progress to the next slide is disabled to prevent accidentally moving on.

And that's it! There are 14 counting challenges total, each getting progressively harder. Hope your classes will enjoy it. Feel free to add more slides if your PowerPoint-fu is up to snuff, just duplicate a slide and make sure whatever monsters you use are sent to the back layer so they will appear behind the dark foreground trees.

UPDATE: Added a few more slides (14 challenges total) and slide transitions so it's more apparent when you go to the next slide. The first 8 counting challenges use numbers 1-10, so if your students can't count beyond 10 yet, you can just do those. Though if they're having fun, it shouldn't hurt to let them try all the slides and answer in Japanese for the bigger numbers they don't know in English yet. :)

Looks like a fun game! I'll try this with my 7th graders but will make it into a writing game. They'll write the numbers in English using a whiteboard and marker. Can't wait to use this game. Thank you!
