Kirby Christmas - Shapes and Colors

A Christmas themed activity for practicing, colors, shapes and prepositions.

For some reason my teachers seem to think I am not only good with computers but a great artist as well. Despite my protestations that it isn't me but the good people here at ALTopedia who are responsible for many of the great activities I use, I was asked by my elementary first grade teachers to make a Christmas card activity that will help students learn both colors and shapes.
Since Kirby is so popular with the little ones I decided to use him as the central theme.
The activity is fairly simple. I have made various Christmas themed objects in a room (plus Kirby) and students will listen to the ALT's instructions and draw the shapes around the various objects.
To this end I have made two pictures one before and one after. The after can be used as a guide for the ALT to describe what shapes they want the students to draw and in what order - For eg. Around the picture of Kirby draw a rectangle. On the top of the picture draw a triangle.
It just occurred to me that a good warm up might be to draw various shapes and ask students if they can guess what it looks like. For example a star with a triangle underneath for a Christmas tree or a rectangle with a square underneath for a Christmas present.
After the students are finished drawing I plan to practice the names of the various objects and then have them ask questions like - "What color is the Christmas Tree?" or "What color is Kirby?"
Please note, I have not yet tried this activity and if I'm honest I think this is much better suited for older students (maybe 5th years) since it needs some knowledge of prepositions as well as shapes. So, I imagine I will have to draw on the board along with the students so they can see exactly what I mean.
Still, I hope some of you may find this useful.
As always any suggestions are appreciated.

This activity looks really cute! I see what you mean about the younger students running into problems due to needing to know about prepositions. A small tip that you could use to help them is instead of drawing on the board with them, if you printed a blank version of the paper and enlarged it, you could stick it on the board and point to a specific place.
For example point to the top of the picture and say "Draw a triangle here." It's only a small thing but could help! :)

My first comment - yay. Thanks so much for the input. Good idea, I'll try putting it on an A3 or maybe even enlarging it even more and putting that on 4 A3 size papers.

Oh this is an awesome idea! I’m sad I found it too late!
