This activity tends to take up the entire class period (without time for review). I've only played with small classes of less than 15 students, so every student has an opportunity to answer 2-3 times.
PREPARATION
Divide students into teams. I ask them to create a team name and then write it on the board. This is how I keep track of points. I will also hide the points behind flashcards so teams can't see each other's points.
Each team plays janken to determine their play order. To determine which team goes first, have the 1st person from each team stand up and play against each other.
ACTIVITY
One student from each team plays janken, winner goes first. The student will pick a question. It's up to you if you want to let their team give them hints and help them if they know the answer. If it's correct, award points, then let the other student pick a question.
At the end, total the points to determine the winning team!
DETAILS
The categories cover subjects from Unit 5 (Do you have a pen?), Unit 6 (Alphabet), and Unit 7 (What do you want?). They vary from naming vocabulary words, reciting letters, and answering questions ("Do you have a calendar?" - "Yes, I do"/"No, I don't").
For the Stationery category, students name the item or reply with "I have..."
For the Alphabet category, students recite the letters on the screen. I give them double points if they can correctly guess the logo the letters are taken from.
For the Food category, students must reply with "I want...". For multiple items shown, I ask them "How many?"
For the Question category, students must answer the question.
For the Random category, I've included questions where they unscramble letters to find the color. There are also challenges to recite the days of the week and say their homeroom teacher's birthday.
