Activity

1st Person Maze

A game to practice directions and spatial reasoning.

DIRECTIONS

  • Have students tell you where to go in English: (i.e. Turn left. Go straight. Go back.)
  • Click an arrow to move in that direction.
  • Click the compass to see the map indicating your current position.
  • Click a lightbulb to open a trap door.
    • Lightbulbs get increasingly tricky to spot.
    • Trap doors can take you in the wrong direction.
    • You can only go through trap doors in one direction.
    • You must use at least one trap door to reach the goal (the treasure room in the middle).

VARIATIONS / TIPS

  • Have students answer a question before they can choose a direction.
  • Limit the number of times students can view the map to increase difficulty.
  • A small class size is ideal. If your class is larger, divide the students into groups for greater discussion and involvement.

Easily the biggest filesize PowerPoint I've ever seen haha. Looks cool, but my cheapo school laptop refuses to even open it 😂

This is amazing but looks very hard, it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Great work!

It is on the hard side. But I played it with 2nd year JHS students and they were able to do it! I made them answer questions before moving so it took nearly the whole period though.

I'm also not surprised it didn't want to open on a school laptop ^^' It really is huge haha. I'm sorry for that! I'd past the point of no return when I realized how gigantic it was becoming.
