A warm-up game for Sunshine English 2: Program 7.3. The text introduces Western art which was influenced by Ukiyo-e. My JTE asked me to create a warm-up game to get students thinking about this topic, so I made this game.
It's very straightforward. Click through the slides and at each painting, ask students if they think the painting was made by a Japanese or Western artist based on the style and subject. You can choose students individually and give a reward like stickers, or you can have them shout it out/raise hands as a class. I prefer the second one, so everyone can participate. There are transitions on each slide and when you click, the answer and the name of the artist is revealed. I tried to pick some tricky paintings, so hopefully this will surprise some kids!
I made it on Google Slides. Here's the link which you can copy and paste into your browser: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wALrSJCtHwtABDfn7PGPdAL2j_CAmdtYgT4gNTkYW4o/edit?usp=sharing
Have fun!
This is great. Maybe have the students have short conversations with their nieghbour for each rather than just interacting with the teachers. 'I think its western' 'Oh me too' or 'Really? I think its Japanese' then do the raise hands and answer check.
