MATERIALS NEEDED:
- MonsterInTheBedroom worksheets: There are three worksheets in total
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Give half of the class worksheet A and half of the class worksheet B.
- Have students circle the correct word (is / are) for each hint.
- Students will take turns giving and receiving hints.
- The student who is listening to the hints will put an X and a number (1 through 8) where the object should be.
- Then students will connect the Xs in order and answer the question, “What do you see?” Students can just circle which animal they see.
- Have the pairs who have found the hidden animal practice writing (Let's Write worksheet). Encourage students to use “outside," "in front of," "behind," and "to the right / left of” if possible.
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- Remind students that this is a listening and speaking exercise. They can just put an X and a number where they think the object is, without drawing the object or writing the word. The exact location isn’t important as long as the students have a general sense of where it should be. For example, "There is an apple on the lamp." The apple doesn’t have to be at the center of the lamp. "There is a necktie by the poster." The definition of “by,” in this case, would be on the side; whether it is the left or the right side doesn't matter as long as it’s “by” the poster.
- If students are making this activity too complicated for themselves, instruct them to put the X and the number close to the word on the worksheet. For example: "There is a pencil on the pillow." Have them put the X and the number near the word “pillow.”
- Remind students to read the hints in order, because they will need to number and connect the Xs.
