All I did was make a very extra irasutoya powerpoint that matches with the story to (hopefully) hype the kids up for the activity and help imagine what's going on.
I also remade the worksheet sentences to simpler sentences that follow A is B sentence structure to help my students understand better.
My 1 nensei haven't learned "There is/are" yet.
I also used "Who is the killer?" instead of "Who is the murderer" on purpose so that they could differenciate between the "murder weapon" and "killer". I also have a lot of kids who play shooting games like Apex so they know the word "kill" from their games.
I hope it was okay to remake the activity!
~ How I played ~
I printed out the hints on a larger B4 piece of paper, laminated it, cut them, and then put them in labeled envelopes.
I then put the envelopes on the blackboard with magnets.
I had students pair up with a partner (my JTE made the pairs) and told them that they're detectives that have been assigned to the case.
They're both partners and need to help each other to solve who the murderer is.
The pairs should have one student go up to the board and try to memorize the sentence and go back and write it on their blank hint sheet with their partner. My JTE and I had them switch who was going up to read each time. It was also okay to go back multiple times to read the same hint if they couldn't remember it.
You could OK writing Japanese if you want to. My JTE and I had them write it in English since they needed the practice.
The murderer is a person who is alone and who has a weapon with them without any hints eliminating them from being the culprit.
(the place would be where the culprit is & "when" would be Tuesday at 6 p.m.)
Answer:

Where: Music room
Also, my final clue that I vocally told the students when they were rushing to finish in the last 5 minutes was:
"The killer is a man."
My students had a super fun time doing the activity and got really pumped up because I had the Detective Conan song playing in the background the whole time.

It says, "Mr. Brown is in the lunch room," but in the map it only shows a cafeteria. That would definitely confuse low level students.
It also says, "The banana is in the science room," but there is no science room, not sure if that's intentional.
For those curious, the answer is Mr. Pink with the baseball bat by process of elimination.

I realized that today too when I was doing the activity!!! These misses were definitely not intentional.
I've changed both sheets to cafeteria (my students have learned cafeteria in Elementary school, which is why I'm using it here)
