Hopefully the powerpoint presentation is fairly self explanatory, but below is a quick summary of how the game should run. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments below!
Flow of the game:
- Students write sentences in groups and send their answers to the teacher (I do it using the chromebooks but it can be done with a whiteboard for each group too).
- If the sentence is correct they get 2 points, you can give 1 point if there is an error somewhere.
- The sentences are read out loud and students vote on whether they agree or disagree with the sentence via a show of hands. The voting can be done with their eyes closed so that they are not swayed by others, or trying to tactically vote.
- The team closest to the goal gets 3 bonus points, the next closest gets 2, and the next closest gets 1.
If you think the agree/disagree voting part could be a little confusing for the students then the activity could be simplified by removing the "disagree" questions and just having them all as "agree". At the end of the day in a class of 30, a target of 5 people agreeing would be the same as a target of 25 people disagreeing. One less thing for students to trip up on.
I've put it as flexible because it the base game/template could easily be adapted to other grammar points such as "I like _", "I can _", etc... although I suppose you'd have to change the title to something more suitable too.
Made mostly with the grammar point in mind, but for what it's worth we use the Here We Go textbooks in my BOE.
*The original used the "Print Clearly" custom font. If you don't have it installed I have uploaded a version with with Comic Sans instead, it's the one with CS at the end of the file name.
What font did you use?
It is all messed up on my laptop.
Ooooh right, I used the Print clearly one. Forgot that its a custom font, thanks for the reminder!
I've just uploaded one with comic sans for those without the font
Great. Thanks!
Used this in class last week and my students loved it! The voting portion really kept them motivated and interested, thank you for posting!
No problem! Glad that your students enjoyed it!
