Infinitives + Adverbial - Where's Wally Game

As a grammar point, we are studying 'action + reason for action.' This is a 'Where's Wally?' game designed for speaking practice!

We are looking for Wally!

He is somewhere in the town.

We have a list of places Wally has already been...

But where is he now?

Students work in groups of 3-4. Each group is given a town map and an activity card set along with a paper envelope.

At the beginning, one activity card is hidden inside the envelope (this corresponds with a specific location on the town map!)

The remaining cards are placed in a pile in the centre of the desk. Students take turns to draw cards and read them out loud. The other students must listen carefully. There are 15 locations in total, and they must remember which ones have been read out.

Once all cards have been drawn, the group leader counts to three, and all students point to the remaining location. Wally must be here!

Then, students check the envelope to confirm whether they have the right answer. :)

I recommend introducing this game with the Powerpoint to explain the concept and model pronunciation.

Once students are ready to play, set a timer to drive pace! I usually give them around three minutes per round. We play the first two rounds as above, and for the last round, level up and place two cards into the envelope at the beginning.

Have fun finding Wally! Credit goes to Irasutoya for providing amazing illustrations as always.
