This is a battleships game. (I've posted a couple of others.) This one is actually based on another battleships worksheet that I can't currently find, (It had a happy cat and a frog cat.) This powerpoint is designed to be done before the worksheet so that students can get used to the idea of battleships as it isn't a popular game in Japan (or at least my coworkers and students haven't heard of it.)
The students either in pairs or in teams make a statement e.g. It's on the box. And you revealed that part of the grid. The students have to find the tiger hiding behind 6 squares.
The last slide can be printed so that the students can try the game in pairs.

Nice powerpoint!
The material that you mention as inspiration comes from japanalt.
It is a google drive link to a bunch of great material under the heading 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐧 ⑤ & ⑥ materials on Altopedia.
Cheers Matthew. I've added it.
This worked so well with my 5th graders! My class is quite large and gets bored easily but they had a lot of fun with this. Thanks so much!
