PDF file is a picture of different Christmas words:
snowman, Santa Claus, reindeer, sleigh, elf, Christmas tree, present, stocking, ornament, candy cane, cookie, bell, candle
and different colored gifts
Printing instructions:
Print pages 1-14 first (all Christmas words, or select pages of the Christmas words you will teach. I only taught 10 words, some HRTs requested specific words) - in full color, A4, but 2 pages per sheet.
Put the printed pages back in the printer (depends on your model, but mine was with the printed side face down) so that you can print the colored gifts on the other side. Print pages 15-28 (gifts) in full color, A4, but 2 pages per sheet.
Print duplicates depending on your class size (For 32 students, I printed 3 copies of each Christmas word.)
Cut the papers in half, so that each paper will have a gift on the front, and a Christmas word on the back.
Mechanics:
a. Teach students that during Christmas, people buy or make gifts to show love to each other.
b. They say, Merry Christmas and Thank you. Practice 3x with your students.
c. Give 1 paper to each student, instruct them that they will exchange gifts with other students, and say Merry Christmas and Thank You. Then look at the picture behind it and say the Christmas word.
d. They will now have the gift that they received, and try to exchange gifts with a differerent student.
Kids will love exchanging the gifts especially with all the cute and brightly colored gift designs, and they will be excited to find out what "present" or Christmas word they got, trying to exchange with as many classmates to find the word they want the most.
You can ask at the start, and at the end of the activity, what present they have, to further drill the vocabulary.
Works well with small or big groups, a little noisy, but students are motivated to speak the target dialogue and vocabulary.
