MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • BodyBuilder worksheet.
  • Dice: make your own homemade dice

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • Give each student a piece of drawing paper. Divide the class into small groups and give each group a body builder game board and a die.
  • One student will roll the die and then move accordingly. Student will say and draw the body part they land on. If students are having troubles with the vocabulary, teachers could help, or encourage other team members to help.
  • Students can only draw one body part at a time. For example, if they land on an ear, they can only draw one ear. If they land on the same body part, they cannot draw the body part again.
  • The student who draws a complete human figure first wins the game.

VARIATIONS:

  • Number 2: To make it more difficult, tell students that they have to roll a “2” to start drawing. Number 2 because the face/head is 2 steps after the “start.”
  • Pairs: Have students work in pairs. One student will roll and say the vocabulary. The partner cannot look at the game board and will draw based on what he/she hears.
  • Challenge: Students must land on and draw a head/ face before they can draw the eyes/ nose/ ears/ mouth/ hair. Students must have a body before they can draw arms/ hands and legs/ feet.
  • Partner 'Simon Says': Students work in pairs. One student will roll and say the vocabulary as the other student will touch the correct body part. The object of this game will be to touch the correct body part before the other team does.
  • Warai-Karuta: Each group needs a game board, a die, and small cards of body parts. In a group, one student rolls the die and then everyone will try to be the first one to grab the body part (just like the game of karuta). Using the body part, they will build their human, just like the Japanese game 福笑い (fukuwari). The student with the most body parts or the most human-look-alike wins the game.

  • Partner "Simon Says":
