This is an activity for Let's Try 2 Unit 9. If unit 9 takes four class periods, I recommend doing this activity in the 2nd or better yet, 3rd period, after they have rearranged the picture cards of the story first and have gottten used to the story.
Before doing this activity, you will need to print the attached pdf and cut the individual sentences out so there should be 14 sentences in a set. You will need one set for each group.
First, put the students in groups of 3 or 4 and give them each the set of sentence cards jumbled up. Get them to lay all the sentences out on their desk. Then read the story two times. The first time, get the students to line up the sentences in order. Speak slowly and repeat each line two or three times. Get the JTE to walk around and help struggling groups while you read. The second time, read the lines once each and get the students to look over the order they put them in.
I recommend going over basic phonics/reading skills beforehand as well to help them understand what to look for when reading. Usually I put up the sentence "I go to school" on the board and ask them to read it (usually only a few can) then ask how they know it says that and talk about the letters the sounds make. This activity is made for students who have already studied about phonics and letter sounds so might be difficult for those that haven't.
I find this activity to be challenging but a good way to get the students to think about how letter sounds connect to form words. Even if they can't read/sound out school, they can look at the starting 's' and expect/listen out for that 's' sound only. I also get them to notice the length of words, repeated words, etc.
