I made this game for the period of time when students learn about the Present Perfect grammar point but haven't learned the "Have you ever ___?" pattern yet.
I find this one a little difficult to explain unless the JTE has a solid idea of how it works ahead of time. Essentially, there are 6 characters who are partway through a daily schedule. The characters have already done the parts of their daily schedule that are above their picture, and they haven't done the items on the schedule below their picture. For example, Mario has already gone to school, he has just eaten lunch, and he hasn't studied English yet.
I start by passing out the schedule paper to the students and then giving them one character card. I tell them to keep their card a secret and not show it to their friends. Next I show the class one card as an example and explain the general idea of the activity to them. I still haven't figured out a good way to do this, so this is where it helps if you've explained how the game works to your JTE ahead of time!
Next I give the JTE one card and run through an example exchange with them.
- Have you studied English today?
- I haven't studied English yet.
- Have you played soccer today?
- I haven't played soccer yet.
- Have you gone to school today?
- I have just gone to school.
- Are you Peach?
I write the JTE's name under the "Peach" section and make sure that the students understood the exchange. Once the students are on board, I have them play with each other and see if they can find all 6 characters.
To be honest I think this game could probably use some revision to make it easier to understand, so let me know what you think!
This is a great idea! I think I'm going to try it, but using a to-do list instead of a daily schedule :)
