Count/Draw the Objects Worksheet (Numbers 11-20)

ES 3年 Let's Try or other grade levels; Students practice counting in English and writing the numeral, then students listen to the English number and draw the same number of objects.

UPDATED: also added #1-10 Version for 1st and 2nd Graders.

For ES 3rd Grade or other levels learning #s11-20.

In Let's Try 1, from past grade levels, the 3rd graders have already mastered #s1-10, so this focuses more on 11-20.

A. Part 1: Speaking/Rote Counting in English, then Writing the Numeral.
1. Print Page1-2 back-to-back, 1 copy per student.
2. Students have a habit of counting in Japanese, then trying to convert the number into English. To break this habit, and help them remember the English words, instruct students to rote count as 1 class, for each picture. Count the number of pepperoni in the pizza, oranges in the tree, pineapples in the pizza, etc. ALT and HRT to count with students: one, two, three.....
3. Once the count is finished, help students think on their own, what the numeral is. Example: fourteen - it has four, and "teen" = ten, or juu yon, 14.
(Or, last resort, look at the chart of numbers 1-20 in order, and have them do the count again to see which numeral corresponds to their count.)
4. Do this for all 12 pictures, so that students have 12x practice in counting numbers higher than 10.

B. Part 2: Listening to the English Number, writing the numeral and drawing the objects.
1. Print Page3-4 back-to-back, 1 copy per student.
2. This time, students must listen to the English number said aloud by ALT (see number word written in bottom corner, for reference).
3. Students use their knowledge of 1-10, to figure out the numeral. Example: sixteen - it has 6, and "teen" = ten/10, so 16.
4. They write the numeral, and draw the same number of objects (16 blueberries on the cheesecake, etc.)

*Alternative method you can teach kids, is to draw an object, as they count in English. one, two, three...up to 16, until they draw 16 blueberries. Then, they can know the Japanese count as well and be able to write the numeral.

**The important thing here is they don't see/read the numeral from the ALT, because they know how to read that in Japanese Math as well, so they need to answer using only the English word they hear, and their knowledge of English numbers, or rote counting in English.

Pages5-6 is a blank version, if you want to practice this many times and do different numbers.

BONUS: The kids can color the worksheet as they like, after answering everything. :)
