Materials Needed:
- WhereAgain worksheets: ForMainGame / ForVariation
- An envelope: Used to store the pictures for each group.
Detailed Explanation:
-Before class, cut out the 40 pictures and put them in envelopes (one per group).
- Divide the class into groups and give each group a school layout and an envelope.
- One student from each group picks a card from the envelope, then goes and asks one of the teachers, "Where is ~?" The teachers answers, "It's in ~," and student must remember the location. Then, the student returns to the group and explains where it is and one student in the group will write the item in the appropriate room on the school layout worksheet. Once completed, the next student chooses the next card and process repeats.
- Give students about 15-20 minutes and then stop the game. The group with the most items in the correct rooms wins.
- If there is time left, the ALT/JTE can switch roles with the students. The teachers asks, "Where is ~," and students who know can answer, "It is in ~."
Variations:
- WHERE IS THE ELEPHANT: Hand out one of the ForVariation worksheets to each group. Students cut out the animals. One student must remember the animal name and come to the front, ask the question: "Where is the...?" Then, they return and paste that animal on the sheet in the correct position. I didn't worry about actually trying to have locations relative to the prepositions, I just wrote them on the sheet. The teacher has the answer sheet and decides to either say the answer of point depending on the student.
Teaching Suggestions:
- Make sure teachers have the answer sheet (the location for all the items.
- Teachers could do a role play to show students how to play the game. Encourage students to write the items in English.
