A PowerPoint game and worksheet to practice critical thinking, and translating English into Japanese by reading.

A PowerPoint game and worksheet to practice critical thinking, and translating English into Japanese by reading.

Materials:
- none

Preparation:
1) - Print the worksheets for all students
2) - Run through the PowerPoint in presentation mode

Lesson:
- This is a mystery/detective story inspired by 4sara1212's "Who Ate Anpanman's Head" activity for 二年生.
NOTE: there are sounds on all slides.
- I divide students into teams of 4 so that weaker students can participate more easily.
- The PowerPoint jumps right into a short "video story" off the first click, which is entirely automated. After the policeman appears (around a minute in), it must be manually clicked by the ALT. The ending of the story and reveal of the culprit is also fully automated.
- Students will listen to each character's account of the incident to discover who stole the secret recipe.
- The grammar featured is from New Crown 3, namely "written by" from page 38, as well as the "I'm glad to" from page 48 (Unit 3).
- It might be a good idea ot write some Key Vocabulary that appears in the story on the blackboard for the students:
steal - 盗む
stole - 盗んだ
was stolen - 盗まれた
truth - 真実
probably - 恐らく
outside - 外
interested - 興味のある・気になる
went back - 戻っていった
figure - 姿

Grammar - was ________ by, I'm ________ to
Preparation Time - 10m
Explanation Difficulty - EASY
Volume - LOW
Enjoyability - 5/5
