If you were at the Fukushima JET teacher training thing yesterday, it was nice to see you! :)
I made this worksheet to go along with New Horizon 1's Let's Try 2! section where Meg goes to the doctor.
I had students look at the pictures to try and guess what's happening before we read the text. I read it slowly myself, then students read it on their own. After that, they repeated after me. Then, we checked the meaning one by one. It was a bit difficult to do with my first class because I was nervous lol, but I managed to do it in a way everyone understood.
After that, students should fill in the blank at the top of the worksheet. They are specifically filling in the "key" parts. Then, in groups, they made their own skit using the tool box from the worksheet and the textbook.
I have a huge 1st year class, so there were about 5-6 students in each group. Have them assign themselves as "doctor", "patient", or "record-keeper"/"writer". In a group of 5, there should be 2 doctors and 2 patients. One doctor speaks English, and the other speaks Japanese. Same with the patients. This is to reinforce the new English with the Japanese meaning. So, they should say the English first and then the Japanese translation next, sentence-by-sentence.
ENG Doctor: What's wrong?
JP Doctor: どうしましたか?
The writers' job is being in charge of ideas and checking the English is correct/makes sense.
Please clarify with your students that they are all doing the same presentation. Some of mine didn't catch that, lol.
Good luck!
