Happy Halloween!
Here is a Winter Break activity, lol.
This activity requires you to buy origami paper in advance. If you don't want to buy origami paper, it can probably be modified to an activity where students are making/writing on snowflakes instead.
Basically, students will watch a video of someone making an origami snowman. Then, they will make it along with you. When everyone is finished, they should write their New Year "goals"/wishes/etc. on the belly of the snowman. I'm going to put my students' snowmen on our English board over Winter Break so that when they come back, they can see all of their goals together until springtime when I plan on returning them.
This is a review from 5th and 6th grade's "I want to..." or "I want to be a(n)..."
Attached is a worksheet to pair along with the activity. It includes a QR code for the video you will watch with students. Mine have tablets, so I want them to be able to scan it easily and go along at their own pace as they work.
Here's a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYAsRA5pk_o
I attached my example below so you can see it! My origami skills aren’t very good but I’ve been practicing them a lot for this activity haha. Students should write their name on the little space in the back. I have 3 classes, so I will color code the origami paper by class so it’s easier to organize them.
Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions!
EDIT: I made a cut-out star version for students who don't want to do origami, or for special needs students/lower level classes :)
