Objective:
Turn the cards to find the matching pairs. 1 picture card and 1 word card must go together. Avoid the 'Mix Up!' card!
Set Up:
Print the 'matching pairs cards' file, laminate and cut up the cards - 1 per group.
Method:
First check the emotion vocabulary with the PPT.
Ask "What's this?" to try and elicit the English. They probably won't know most of them, so you can say that Japanese is okay and get the JTE to help check.
On the 3rd slide do 'repeat after me' to practice.
Then, put the students into groups of 4 and give each group a set of cards.
Tell them to spread the cards out, back-side up.
How to play:
- Play janken to start - winner goes first.
- Player 1 turns two cards over.
- If they match the student keeps them and has 1 point.
- If they don't match, they are turned back over and it's they next players turn.
- If a student turns over the 'Mix Up' card, all the cards on the table have to be reshuffled! This is a fun challenge because then the students can't remember where the cards were.
- Student with the most cards (points) at the end, wins!
Try to get them to say the sentence as they flip the cards for extra practice.
