This PowerPoint game is inspired by the UK game show Big Fat Quiz of the Year and is perfect as a time filler activity for Junior High School classes. I usually play it after doing some sort of Christmas trivia the class before. You could also adapt it for Special Needs or low-level Senior High School students. Itâs designed to be stress-free, fun, and engagingâideal for a relaxed lesson day!
How It Works:
Teams & Setup:
Break the class into teams (I like groups of 4-6) and give each team a whiteboard.Gameplay:
- Each round has 5 questions from a specific category.
- All teams write their answers at the same time and reveal them together.
- Teams earn 1 point for each correct answer. No points are deducted for incorrect answersâitâs all about having fun!
- Keep track of scores on the chalkboard so everyone can see.
- Optional Tip: If you notice some teams struggling to decide on answers, set a 40-60 second timer per question to keep things moving.
- Each round has 5 questions from a specific category.
PowerPoint Navigation:
The game runs like a standard PowerPointâjust click through the slides. For one category (Song Reversal), thereâs a clickable button to play audio clips, so make sure to practice that part beforehand!

Happy teaching,
Carpenter Bee
This looks super awesome and I am sure my English club will get a kick out of it. One thing I noticed tho, if were using Deadpool and Wolverine, shouldn't it be NSYNC - BYE BYE BYE?
You know what, you are completely right! I must have been thinking it's Deadpool cause my kids talk about it but they also really love the song "I want it that way". Now I don't know how they know it lol. I will change the album cover to Backstreet Boys! Thanks for the catch~
Cool deal! I think "I want it that way" is one of the more common "older, but not Carpenters old" songs that JTEs throw into their monthly rotation.
This is really very good indeed! Thanks for sharing it.
Awesome work!
This looks great! Thank you for making it- I'm looking forward to using it in class! =D
Awesome! Thanks for making this. I might try to use it if my schedule works out. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that question 1 of the Japan Trivia section might be a bit daunting to explain, even to the JTE, let alone the students. :D
You've been the busiest Bee of all this year Carpenter Bee. All my best wishes for Christmas/the Season and 2025.
absolutely awesome activity! my special needs class loved it! Thank you heaps!
Just making JET`s aware who have international students (this is probably common knowlege, I apologise) slide 23 about the guinea pigs could be potentially triggering to some students if they are from that country. So I would discuss with your JTE if it is ok beforehand. I had a lot of students from that country, so was warned against asking it, as it could start bullying, rumours etc from the other students.
