DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Explain the grammar point - for Total English it's "Will you ~ please?", for others it's "Could you ~ , please?". Responses are "Sure / OK" or "Sorry, I can't."
- Hand out the cards - I give four cards per student.
- Students have to walk around the room and ask each other. For example, A will ask B: "Will you sing a song please?" (He asks this because he currently has that card.)
- If B is confident, they'll say "Sure," and start singing. They then receive the "sing a song" card.
- If B is shy, they'll say "Sorry, I can't. They don't get the card. Then, it's B's turn to ask A.
- At the end, ask who got the most cards, and give them a prize/applause. Go over the grammar point again.
VARIATIONS:
- Could be adapted to other grammar points pretty easily.
- As some students are too cool to do any of the challenges, and will just hold onto their starting cards, it may be a good idea to have the "shy" student be forced forfeit a card to the requesting student if they don't attempt the request.
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- Demonstrate with the JTE first!
TIPS/CAUTIONS:
- The "dance soran" card is probably exclusive to certain schools, so you might want to change it.
- Some requests are more embarrassing than others, and may give the students holding such cards an advantage.
