Try some warm-up examples: What do you call him? (Show Picture of Bowser from the Mario games. In Japan, he is called Kuppa.) Translate into Japanese: "People call Japan the land of the rising sun."
Introduce the nicknames for places in your country. For example, in America, states have nicknames. "We call California the Golden State." Here are some examples:
- Arizona – The Grand Canyon State
- California – The Golden State
- Florida – The Sunshine State
- Georgia – The Peach State
- Texas – The Lone Star State
- New York – The Empire (帝国) State
Hand out the worksheet and do the Japanese version with Japanese prefectures.
