MATERIALS NEEDED:

PrepositionsOfPlace attachment: For the room attachment, you have two options:

1) Delete all the things out of the room and all the sentences on the page before you give students a copy, or

2) Simply use the room attachment as a teacher's guide and give the students a blank piece of paper.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • Run through the new vocabulary while using the vocabulary flashcards or drawing pictures on the chalkboard.
  • Explain to the students that you will describe a room that they will try to draw.
  • At the end, pass out the Room attachment so the students can compare their work with the original. There are a few different ways to draw out the room, so the students' drawings don't have to match the picture exactly.

VARIATIONS:

  • You can change the items in the room or the characters sitting on the sofa.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • While I was teaching the new vocabulary (on, in front of, behind) I would also use examples from around the class. "The lights are on the ceiling." "The clock is on the wall." "I am in front of you." "He thinks his cell phone is hidden inside his desk."
