Activity

What do you think about drones?

Students read a short passage about drones and write their opinions on how they should be used.

I made this as an activity for third-year junior high school students after doing a similar activity for a grown-up conversation class.

First, have the students read the written passage. You'll need to know your class to get an idea of how well they can dive into longer readings like this on a topic they're not familiar with. It might seem tough, but the high school entrance exams feature longer and more technical readings, so it should be good practice.

Once they've read the page, you can review it as a class to make sure everyone gets the gist of it. Then on the second page, have the students think of good things and bad things about drones. They can then choose which level of drone use they're comfortable with and explain why. You can have them talk about their opinions with partners or groups. There's no right answer, of course - the activity is just to get them thinking about a current topic in English!
