ALT calls out a letter. Students practice writing five words from their picture dictionaries that start with that letter. Students get more points for finding words other students couldn't.
Birthday Practice with Famous People & Characters
Students get a sheet of paper with a famous person or character and their birthday. Students walk around the class asking other students "What's your name?" and "When is your birthday?"
Dice Game Review
Students roll a die and answer the designated question. Great for a quick review and covering a wide variety of questions.
Sounds and Letters Ball Toss
A super simple activity in which you choose a letter and have students say as many words starting with that letter as possible.
Spelling Race Game
Two students race to select a card spelled by the teacher.
Find the category... Find the Word
Have students use their Picture Dictionary (PD) and challenge them to find categories and/or words.
Word Race
Have a class of students say in sequence a section of words in the Picture dictionary within a specific time limit.
Old Maid (Card Game) without the joker
Known in Japanese as /jijinuki/. Have students mix their vocabulary cards into one deck, distribute the cards, take out pairs. Draw cards from other player's hands until there is only one card left.
Pointing Game
The teacher says a word, the students repeat that word and then point to the word. Have the students do individually or in pairs as a race.
ALT's Pencil Shop
An activity in which the homeroom teacher and ALT open a shop of classroom items so the student's can practice "Do you have a 〜?
Bomb バクダン Game
A simple game in which you draw a bomb and points under vocabulary cards posted on the blackboard.
Black Box
A fun activity in which students give hints to a student who is touching an unidentified object that everyone else knows.
Zoo
Rhythm based game in which students practice gestures and animal vocabulary by passing play back and forth in a circle.
Zombie Game
A no prep speaking activity in which students play janken, try to avoid becoming a zombie, and have a great time.
What time is it, Mr. Wolf?
Call and response game where students move forward the number of steps Mr. Wolf calls out and when Mr. Wolf says dinner time, he chases the students. First student caught becomes Mr. Wolf.
