There's a section in Here We Go 3 as well as New Horizons 6 that discusses endangered animals. My JTEs all asked me to present something to get students to discuss the topic in class (a very difficult topic in English I think). I found animal crossing characters and their real world counterparts and created a presentation that got them a little more interested.
I like to have the students guess why the animal is endangered or their numbers are low. They can talk to their neighbors for a minute to share ideas before I reveal the answer. It's good to have the JTE help them with difficult words like habitat loss and pollution (but JH students have been researching it for the SDGs so most were comfortable).
Thank you so much! This is great and I'm definitely going to use it for the same lesson at my JHS. You just saved my brain :)
Oh! One more thing. I just did some research on the crested ibis, and there are now 480 living in the wild in Japan due to conservation efforts. So that the part about the last one dying in 2003 can now be deleted.
I was so worried because no teacher asked me to do this (page 47). But this year new teacher asked me if I have an activity for this particular topic. Thank you so Much!!!
