Pokemon Catch

A year review of the New Horizon 1&2 textbooks. Also adapted for ES. What do you like?

First: Quick thank you to UonumaRobert, I used his How To Make a Powerpoint instructions to make this. It`s not a point game, but the instructions were still very helpful for figuring things out! I also shamelessly stole audio from one of his pokemon games because my school has basically got everything blocked, so thank you/sorry.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Answer the questions and catch the pokemon. There are 35 questions in total. Right answers tigger a throw of the pokeball which lowers the health bar.

There are example answers under every slide (of course those are not the required answers, just examples) and if at any point you wish to end the game, just click on Satoshi to bring yourself to the last slide.

I use the “pull straws” method for who will answer the questions. In other words, I have a bunch of wooden chop sticks numbered 1-35, I give them a good shake and have my JTE pull numbers, the number corresponding to the student is the one that has to answer the question. If they‘re really stuggling, of course let them phone a friend for help. And if the number doesn‘t match a student simply draw again. This way there is no need for students to get up or form groups (yay for covid friendly) and they can just stay at their desks. And if you don‘t have a full 35 students, just toss the sticks back in the jar when you run out and some lucky students get to answer twice (or more!). I also like this better than just snaking down the rows because the questions do get progressively harder.

The questions are ordered in the way they are presented in the textbook, so easy questions at the beginning, harder questions at the end. If that‘s not the way you roll, change it up and randomize it! Or completely revamp the questions if you want. The world‘s your oyster. The simplified version is the one I used for my special needs class.

Finally, I do make sure to emphasize that even if it‘s only one student that has to answer, everyone should still be trying to answer the question on their own, whether in their head or in their notebook.

Hope someone else can use and enjoy this. I‘m looking forward to making more complicated stuff. Making this was a lot of fun!

Edit April 29

Added an Elementary school version that I'm using with the grade 5&6's. We catch one pokemon each class at the beginning for a warm up (working down the class list). The questions are pretty much all: What _____ do you like? With a few outlier questions (What is your name? What day is it today?)

Could be used as a stand alone game for a what do you like review.
