Gesture Game

Use gestures in the form of a competitive game to teach students target phrases. Student level - Elementary

Estimated time: 10 minutes or more

Target phrases - How are you? - I am happy/sad/hungry/tired/sleepy

Process -

  1. Students stand up
  2. Everyone says twice - "How are you?"
  3. Everyone says - "I am _______"
  4. Right after saying "I am", everyone shows a random gesture of one of the emotions above. The students whose gestures match with that of the ALT is/are out of the game.
  5. Remove options to make it more competitive.

＊Set images for the emotions or actions help the students more in retaining gesture memory which in turn catalyses the progress of the game.

NB - I saw this game played by one of my JTEs.
