This activity goes over "Where can ~" "Where is ~" and extra "When is~" practice.
Print on B4 size paper. Print the answer sheet for yourself and your JTE you will both be talking and providing the answers to the students.
Read the names of the states together. Show a map of the US to the students and I like to compare how big Japan is to the US.
Tell students they will have to find the states and fill in their maps later with the help of the teachers.
First have students complete the fill in the blank questions. (These are pretty easy feel free to edit to suite your school's level maybe even have JP -> EN translation practice).
After 5 or 10 minutes (depending on student's level) go over the answers, check spelling.
Form groups and tell students they will have to now ask their questions to the teachers by sending a pair up from each group.
example:
students A & B come up to a teacher.
A: "Hello! Where can we see the Aurora Lights?"
Teacher: "We can see the Aurora Lights in Alaska."
A: "Thank you."
B: "Where is Alaska?"
Teacher: *pointing at the map "It's here"
They relay the info to their group while a new pair come up.
