Original Curries Puzzle in Groups (NH6 U6)

Mix-and-match puzzle about original curry recipes. Students work in small groups. Suits NH6 U6.

This exercise familiarises students with some of the vocabulary and sentences used in New Horizon 6, Unit 6 "Let's Think About Our Food." Use it around the middle or second half of the unit, when students have learned the vocabulary and are starting to prepare their presentations/final assessment. Note: the curries' names are in orange bold font; ingredients are underlined and in blue; and there are spaces for students to add the appropriate food group.

Print out the attachments and cut them into small slips of paper before class.

Put the class into groups of three or four. Ideally, one student in the group will use an electronic device (e.g. internet-connected tablet) for research.

Hand out the slips of paper for the teams to mix-and-match correctly. Remind them that each curry has exactly five slips of paper. Initially, just give four curries to each group i.e. twenty slips in total. Remind them to write in the appropriate food group for each ingredient.

After the groups have finished, summarise with a whole-class plenary.
