Give each student a copy of the worksheet, or show it on a board/monitor where everyone can see clearly (in this case, let the students take notes on scratch paper).
The teacher chooses one of the five characters from the top row. Students must ask the questions in the leftmost column to determine what character the teacher has chosen.
Ex. "Can they bake bread well?" No -> the character cannot be Minnie or Bowser. Yes -> the character must be Minnie or Bowser.
This can also be played in groups or pairs depending on the motivation, orderliness, and level of the class, as well as social distancing measures.
*Note: This activity makes use of the third person singular "they" pronoun, which teachers and students may not be familiar with. Be prepared to give a quick explanation of that before beginning the activity.
Thanks for the WS! Do you have a word file for this? I'd like to change they to he/she.
Hi VinShida, I can find that version latern! But I think the students can benefit from learning the they pronoun. It's something they will commonly come across in English. Additionally, at schools in my BoE the 5th graders get an (age-appropriate) pamphlet with info about transgender issues, so learning this would even be a good opportunity for some multidisciplinary moral education and English study. Cheers!
