This activity is inspired by the TV show Taskmaster and the Mission Impossible review game by ch_armander.
Before class, prepare a group of tasks about what the students have been learning. These tasks can be absolutely anything! I did this game with my high school 3rd years to review for their final exam so I included conversation practice, vocabulary review, fill in the blank, and more. I recommend around 8-10 tasks depending on how long each task takes (for example, a word search takes longer than fill in the blank).
I printed out each of the tasks and glued them to a piece of colored paper. I numbered each task to give to the teams in order. I made sure the tasks with substantial review were in the middle, so all the students could practice in case we ran out of time. More fun and less review heavy tasks like a word search were closer towards the end.
Here are the instructions for running the game in the class:
- Put the students into team of 4-5 students. Have the students put their desks together to make a table. Each table should have only 1 textbook which they can't use until they have the JTE or ALT's permission.
- Every team starts with Task 1. Once they finish their task, it must be checked by the JTE or ALT. If their task is correctly completed, they get Task 2. If there are mistakes, they have permission to use the textbook to help fix those mistakes.
- The first team to finish all their tasks is the winner!
You can decide if you want the students to have textbooks or not. I wanted my students to review but also identify what they really didn't know and need to study before the exam, so that's why I included the no textbook without permission rule.
Thumbs up for taskmaster!
Thank you so much for this! I edited the tasks for each grade and all of them really enjoyed this activity. They really worked together to solve the tasks!
