Activity

Heads Up Seven Up Was/Wasn't

Heads up Seven up modified for the classroom. Involves speaking and writing

It's the end of the term so I am trying to figure out ways to spend time, so here is an activity I thought up.
I have not play tested this yet and I don't have the materials for it, however I wanted to archive this before I forget my idea. When I have the powerpoint and handout, I will add it again. Also, if I do this activity, I will update again with the outcome.

This game runs like Heads up Seven up, but with the addition of a writing element to get all the kids involved.
At the start of the game, the ALT or the JTE will pick 7 students to be "it". Afterwards, all kids put their heads down and stick their thumbs up.
The students who are "it" will go around the classroom and choose another student by touching their thumbs. Afterwards, the students who were chosen will stick their thumbs down to confirm that they were chosen, and the "it"s will go and stand in front of the blackboard. For COVID safety, you can also give them a counter/chip to use as a choosing marker instead of making physical contact.
After the choosing phase, have the students all raise their heads and confirm who were the chosen students. The ALT/JTE will then ask the question "Who was it?" to each of the 7 chosen students.
Those students will then use the target phrase, "___ was it!" to confirm their choice. The choice will then be written on the blackboard to keep track of the decision.
During this time, other students will also be writing their guesses down to play along with the game. They will confirm the choice by writing either, "Yes, he/she was" or "No, he/she wasn't"
After the guesses are all made, "it"s will reveal their answers. Students will tally up their points to see how many correct guesses they got.

I can see how this game can be applied to U4P3 as well, practicing the "be" verb. Just change was to is. The new question would be "Who is it?" With the responses being, "__ is!" and "Yes he/she is, No he/she isn't"

If you try this out before me, let me know how it turned out!
