Alphabet Monster

Students draw a monster using the alphabet.

On a whiteboard or blackboard you draw a "monster" using letters from the alphabet: U could be a face, WWW could be hair, C an ear, O a mouth and so on. The students should get the hang of the idea. Give them out a copy of the handout and let them go. Ideally they should trace off the letters they use. There is an option to let them name the monster or write about it. I am sure you or the students could come up with ideas on how to do this.

It is possible to do this even with low grades in elementary school. A friend says he has done it in junior high school whereby the students must also write about the monster.
This idea has been inspired by coworkers and I have seen versions of it on ALTOPEDIA.

This sounds like fun! I am going to try it out next year with my elementary students!

Oh yeah, I have pretty much uploaded this exact activity but without the extra introduction writing, its great for 3rd and 4th grade ES students to play with the alphabet, and its fun to do around Halloween.
