JHS Self-Intro Lesson and Sheet (New Horizon)

Lesson and worksheet for JHS first graders to speak and write in their first English class.

Initially, remind students of a self-introduction. Demonstrate with your JTE. Make it casual and conversational.

Check students understanding: "what did you hear?" Write on the board the topics that students suggest/remember during a self-introduction e.g. name, age, birthday, likes, dislikes, hobbies, dreams, etc. Students can refer to these during the speaking component.

Then, students revise/practise saying their self-introductions in small groups. Four is best. They can simply turn and face each other. While they're doing this, patrol the room and encourage conversational reactions. Also check that students were genuinely listening to each other e.g. ask "when is his birthday?" or "what animal does she like?"

Finally, hand out the attached worksheet. Students can write and then check their work with the JTE or ALT. When they're finished they can put their worksheet/poster in their personal file on the classroom wall.

This resource was prepared for a Board of Education that uses New Horizon textbooks in elementary and junior high schools.
