My HRT asked me for a more interesting way to do the Enjoy Communication section at the end of NH5 Unit 3, and this is what I came up with!
I've attached the PDF and the word file, so you can edit the boxes to reflect what answers are popular with your classes. My students understood this activity fairly well, but for lower level classes it might be helpful to add pictures to the boxes as well!
How to play:
1. hand out the worksheets (one per student) and have the students write their own name and class at the top
2. do a clear model with the HRT (make sure you cover all the rules - if necessary, ask the HRT to explain in Japanese)
3. have students stand up and move about the room. When they find a partner they ask "what do you want to study" and "what do you want to be". If their partner's answer matches one of the boxes, they write their name
4. Find a new partner and repeat. If they write three names in a row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal), that's one bingo. The overall goal is to get the full 9 box Big Bingo
Rules:
1. You can only use a person's name ONCE (for example, if your partner says they want to study English and P.E, you can only write their name in one of those boxes)
2. You must do the WHOLE CONVERSATION i.e. you must ask both questions and give encouragement at the end (for example, if you get an answer that matches one of the boxes after asking what your partner wants to study, you still have to ask them what they want to be)
3. To make it easier to find someone who matches each box, you have to say all of the subjects on your schedule card
These are the rules I used in my classes, but feel free to make them more or less strict depending on your classes' needs!
I think you could also edit the template of this worksheet to fit with other Q&A grammar points as well!
