Verbs - Past Simple (Speaking Practice Activities)

1. Writing and Speaking Activity Requirement: pencils Print the worksheets - 1 per student

• using the base form of the verb, write the Past Simple form by writing -ed at the end
• learn about irregular verbs' Past Simple form
• ALT to pronounce the words one by one, and students to repeat the pronunciation (please comment if you find errors)

1. Summer Bingo Activity Requirement: pencils/stamps/stickers Print the worksheets - 1 per student

• students pair up, do RSP to determine who asks a question first.
• S1: Did you (verb - base form) (object) last summer?
• S2: Yes, I (verb - past simple form) (object) last summer.
• S1 marks the spot, then S2 asks a question.
• They find different partners to complete their Bingo.

1. Summer Tic Tac Toe Activity Requirement: 2 different-colored sets of 5 markers each (can be eraser, magnet, pieces of paper, etc.) Print and laminate the Activity Sheet - 1 per pair of students

• students pair up, do RSP to determine who gets to take a turn first.
• S1: I (verb - past simple form) (object) last summer.
• students take turns in saying the past simple verb and marking a spot until someone wins.

1. Sugoroku Boardgame Activity Requirement: dice, different-colored markers 1 per student (can be an eraser, magnet, etc.) Print and laminate the Activity Sheet - 1 per group of 3-4 students

• students form groups of 3 or 4, roll the dice to determine who gets to take a turn first.
• S1 rolls the dice, moves his marker, and speaks a sentence using the verb on his spot.
• S1: I (verb - past simple form) (object) last summer.
• students take turns in saying the past simple verb and marking a spot until they all reach the finish line.

1. My Daily Journal Writing Activity Requirement: pencil Print several copies of this Journal Sheet for each student.

• students to write at least 1 sentence per day, about what they did during the day/previous day.
