Instructions
-Make 5 groups.
-In each group, list 6 things for each category: an occupation, a location, a valuable item
-The teacher (ALT) will choose 6 items in each category from the groups and make a table on the board. Students will also fill a table in on their worksheet. (Make sure there is at least one more item in each category than the number of groups.)
-The teacher (ALT) will also be writing each item on cards. Keep the categories separate.
- After shuffling, the teacher will choose one card from each category and keep it secret. These are the cards that the students will be working to figure out.
-Each group will then receive one item from each category. This information is kept within the group and it can be marked off their table.
-Groups will then make sentences using “If I were you, I would talk to (investigate) the (suspect). I saw them at (location) with a (valuable item.)”
-The teacher will indicate on the board whether the items used in the students sentence are correct or not with a circle or an X.
-Based on this information, the next groups will try to get closer to the truth of the crime. The group that figures out the crime first wins.
*I have left the city/town name blank in the instructions on the worksheet. So please feel free to put your current city/town or anywhere else.
*You may be able to change the police tip sentence to different grammar points/grade levels.
