Used specifically with pg 80-81 of the Here We Go textbook for 3rd year, but should be applicable for most uses of teaching indirect questions.
This is a modified version of an activity my JTE gave me to make copies of for class. The original only had people who had passed away and therefore only used the past tense, but I wanted to try and get the students to do both past and present tense. There were also only white people plus Fukuzawa Yukichi, so I wanted to change that to be a little more diverse.
The new one has Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai, Hisaishi Joe, Fukuzawa Yukichi, and Van Gogh.
- We handed out the sheet and gave students ten minutes to research each person and choose one to introduce.
- They then made a pair and introduced the chosen person using the phrase "Do you know who he/she is?"
- They then explained a little about them. eg. "He writes music for movies" or "He painted a famous picture".
- Depending on available time and students' ability, they can continue with other phrases like "Do you know how tall they are" or "Do you know what he is printed on?"
There are hints on the bottom of the sheet and the names of the people overleaf in case students forget.
