JHS 2 Unit 7 New Horizon pg 107-110.
POWERPOINT (10 minutes):
The PowerPoint goes over the difference between active and passive sentences and how to make a passive question. I will usually go over an example on the board as well to solidify how to change active to passive. If necessary, please have the JTE do a brief explanation of the grammar.
For the game, I emphasize we will just be working on WAS in passive sentences.
The past tense vocabulary included at the end of the slides are the vocab used on the worksheet and the game.
~I also included a document that has screenshots of the powerpoint so students can use it as review for the exam~
WORKSHEET (5-10 minutes):
After the ppt I give the students 5-10 minutes to practice changing active to passive sentences.
PRACTICE GAME (30 minutes):
1) Have students get into groups of 3-4.
2) At my school we have a large amount of mini whiteboards so I have students work on changing the sentences on there, but if you do not have access to whiteboards students can use paper.
3) Game Day 1 is having the students change the active sentence to passive. I usually give the students 30 seconds to 1 minute to change the sentence depending on the level. The students get one point if they change the sentence correctly and all grammar is correct (including periods, correct spelling, etc.). I mark the points on the board.
I will have students in each group change who writes for each question and they will also read their answer aloud.
4) If you have time you can utilize Game Day 2 which is having the student change the sentence to passive, then change the sentence to a question. I ask the students to write both sentences for a point. They will get one minute to write both sentences. I will have students in each group change who writes for each question and they will also read their answer aloud
Feel free to edit as you please as some examples are specific to me.
