A pretty hilarious drawing exercise to practice comparatives and superlatives by drawing three people's faces.
Materials:
- none
Preparation:
1) - Print the drawing sheets for all students
2) - Run through the PowerPoint in presentation mode (and test out the drawing results for yourself) ;)
Lesson:
- This activity uses three blank faces to practice comparatives and superlatives. (his eyes are bigger than, her eyes are the biggest, his eyes are as big as, etc.)
- The PowerPoint starts with a little refresher on those grammar points, then moves into the main activity. It is a highly self-explanatory activity when you roll through the powerpoint in the lesson, but weaker students will often draw on the wrong face anyways despite the names being clearly labelled. If you find that to be the case, please work with your Japanese teacher to weed this problem out.
- This lesson is very very fun and you will be amazed at some of the monstrous or beautiful faces that students create. They love to compare each others drawings at the end, and at this point it can get loud so please be warned.
- At the end of the PowerPoint I added a brief preview of the More / Less, Most / Least grammar points, if you feel inclined.
Grammar - Comparatives, Superlatives
Preparation Time - 10m
Explanation Difficulty - MEDIUM
Volume - MEDIUM - LOUD
Enjoyability - 5/5
Love it! Thank you so much!
What a great idea! I'll definitely try this in the future.
Its funny how I can imagine this in my class so clearly. They will have a blast. Question, Do the students draw same time as you go with the power point?
@genieg Yes! They should definitely be drawing on every slide with a blank face. The reveal of the "true faces" at the end is just for a little more humor.
i am in love with this. cant wait to try it!
Thank you for this! It was a huge hit in class! The students and my JTE enjoyed the activity a lot!
What a fantastic lesson! The students were in gales of laughter when we were comparing the drawings. So grateful for your making this ^_^
Thanks for this activity!!!
I made a couple more slides at the end using some anime characters for a 2nd game, and made the second game listening only. Will see how it goes this afternoon!
I have played this with all grades of my low level high school as either a quick game for extra time (third years) or part of a class (first and second years) and every single student and JTE loved it. Two of the JTEs praised me and asked if I came up with the idea, I was a little salty I had to say no lol. Thank you!!
This is an amazing idea, I’m excited to try it out with my 2年生 tomorrow!
Nice idea !!
