This is a speaking activity for 5th graders reviewing "My hero...". No preparation needed, just the Powerpoint below!
HOW TO PLAY:
- Students make pairs with the friend sitting beside them.
- Students will janken to see who goes first.
- Student A will think of a famous person on the board, and Student B will try to guess based on the information presented. Then, they will switch until they complete all 4 or until the timer (~3 minutes) runs out.
- HOWEVER, the student presenting MUST give hints in the order it is shown on the board.
For example, if Student A chooses Ohtani Shohei in Level 1, they must say his job, what he can do, what he likes, then his personality. Student B can guess at any time. Because it's Level 1, Student A can say "He is a baseball player" and Student B can immediately guess Ohtani Shohei, because he is the only baseball player on the board. However, if Student B needs more hints, Student A should continue speaking.
- When the timer runs out, students write down how many points they have based on how many people they were able to guess.
- Move onto the next level (If Student B was the last one to speak, Student A should start the next level, and vice versa...)
- Students will count how many points they have in the end. Students who were able to guess almost every celebrity are the class "English Masters".
ADVICE:
- Review job/personality vocab beforehand if your class is still struggling.
- Make sure all of your students know the people in the presentation (it might be fun to switch them for staff/teachers in your school. I didn't have enough time, so I chose celebrities students have presented before)
- You shouldn't have to increase the amount of time given in each level, because by level 4 they should be able to get used to saying/hearing the 4 key sentences many times.
CELEBRITIES I USED IF YOU DONT KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND DONT HAVE TIME TO CHANGE ANYTHING (In order of appearance on the second slide):
Saori Yoshi - Olympic wrestler
Doraemon - robot
Ohtani Shohei - you know who he is...
Ado - singer
Degawa - comedian from ItteQ who speaks English
Ishikawa Yuuki - volleyball player
Hikakin - YouTuber
Oosaka Naomi - tennis player
Hope you and your students enjoy!
Thank you for this!
