Warm-up game to practice he/she. If you'd like, step 2 also practices the verb+s grammar they will study later.
I posted an activity very similar to this for 2nd year students using "Call me..." and my students really enjoyed it, so I made one for 1st grade at the tail-end of them learning He/She. Can be changed to fit This/That if you're feeling brave.. (This is Hanako. She likes... That is Taro. He likes... etc.)
Split students into 2-3 teams. If it's a small class, I recommend doing it together.
STEP ONE:
Students will introduce themselves with "Hello, I'm..."
The person behind them will introduce themselves the same way, then ADD "He is.." or "She is..."
Meaning, the last person in the team will have to introduce everyone in their team after themselves.
The team who does it in the shortest amount of time is the winner. It usually takes about 2 minutes per team depending on class size (mine is huge..) and average level.
STEP TWO:
Same gameplay, but adds "I like..."
So, "Hello, I'm... I like..." then the person behind them will say the same thing, then "He likes..." or "She likes..."
I had students choose a category of things they can say they like. For example, if they chose sports, they can only say what sports they like. Clever classes choose color, though ;)
This time, the team who is able to introduce the most students within 3 minutes is the winner. The average for my classes were about 8. I also recommend doing step two in the opposite direction, so one student isn't last both times.
That's all! Let me know if you have any questions!
