This game's objective is to make the kids more curious about other cultures by showing them that a lot of words they use might come from other languages. Additionally, It might help some of them understand the difference in phonemes by seeing how some English words have been transformed in Katakana.
I am using a list of loanwords and dividing it into parts so that they can be used individually or combined to fit your needs. As of now, I only have part one completed but I will update it with the other parts as I go.
INSTRUCTIONS:
divide the class in groups, probably 4-6 students each, and hand them a whiteboard.
When playing the game, flags will appear. Get them to guess the country and language of each flag. If they can't, give them the answer.
Now, get them to guess as a group (and write on the whiteboard) the LANGUAGE (not country) of origin for each word.
Reveal the answer and keep track of the score.
